Lightweight Structures (LB)

Elective module, summer semester

The course focuses on the conceptual and structural design of lightweight load-bearing systems. A key emphasis is placed on the digital and experimental modeling of tensile, compressive, and bending-stressed spatial structures, such as beam grids, domes, tensegrity wheels, gridshells, and membranes. Through tutorials, experiments, and 1:1 workshops, students develop an intuitive understanding of geometry and mechanics.

Students independently create architectural solutions for a defined function, considering functional, built, and climatic contexts.

The design topic of this semester is the roofing of a swimming hall.
